Just wanted to talk through one of the weirdest hand I have ever seen; I won it but should have knocked a player out.
So I will try to explain it so you can follow along.
Preflop the guy under the gun (first guy after the blinds) limps in (means just calls the big blind. Then a guy in middle position also calls, everyone else folds to me. I am in the big blind and look down (I will tell you what I had after the hand. But I will tell you that the guy UTG had 77. I raise preflop with the blinds at 50/100 to 350. The UTG calls the raise, as does the player in middle position.
The flop comes: 636 with 2 clubs. I bet out 650 and the UTG player calls and the other player folds.
The turn brings: King of hearts. . I check and so does the other player.
Now the river: brings the 7 of clubs. So now there is a flush possibility, a straight possibility, so he should make a good bet as he has a full house 7's full of 6's. Now I will tell you I have KK. So I have K's full of 6's. So the only hand that beats me is quad 6’s, which is very unlikely. So I am hoping he hit his straight or flush or maybe has pocket 3's. So I check. Now remember he called the preflop raise, the bet on the flop and also checked the turn. Now he has hit is 4% card that is a jackpot card for him. AND HE CHECKS. He called everything and then hits his miracle card and doesn’t bet. Everyone at the table was dumbfounded, as I should have doubled up.
I ask him did he not realize he hit his full house or was he afraid I had pocket 6's and he responds I don’t speak good English with a Russian accent. It was honestly the weirdest play I have seen in a long time.
Story number 2:
The best move I have probably ever made on someone. I was playing in an event yesterday and felt like I had a great read on most the players at my table; one guy in particular. He was from Ireland with a strong accent and a good player but very aggressive. Based on his betting patterns, I could usually tell when he was strong or weak. Here is how the hand played out.
Preflop: I look down at A10 suited in late position and raise to 650 with the blinds at 100/200 with a 25 ante. The button calls and everyone else folds.
The flop comes down J96. I check and he bets 1500 (he seems weak) so I call
The turn brings a 10. Now I have hit my hand but I could still be behind so I check he again bets 1500. Now this is a small bet and I think since I think he is weak if I just call this bet and any scare card comes on the river I can bet him off his hand.
The river brings an 8. So the board shows J 9 6 10 8. So if he has AJ and I have a 7 or Queen in my hand his hand is no good. I check and he bets 2500, I say to him well if you have a Queen I guess I am going to pay you off and move all-in over the top of him. He looks at me and says damn I thought you were on the straight draw and folds his hand. I turn over A10 and he almost loses his mind as he did have AJ.
3 hands later I knocked him out with AK against AQ.
