While I had a little over a week off, I thought it would be good to review some of the great poker books I have read in the past. I have been making it very deep into a ton of tournaments to be just short of the money or cashing but not getting into the top 3, where the real money is. In the past year I have been very successful and was wondering if there was a leak in my game that has been holding me from making it really deep in the tourneys.
The best few books out there are:
1. Doyle Brunson’s Super System 1 and Super System 2 - These are considered to be the bibles of poker.
2. Barry Greenstein's "Ace on the River" - This is a great book with a ton of insight.
3. David Skylanski's "Book on tells"
These are the books I went back through and looked at my notes, highlights and reviewed the sections on tournament poker. After looking through these I realized there are some minimal changes I can make to my game. But overall my game is solid and I should stick with my type of play that has been very adaptable to certain situations and that I have always got my money in the pot with the best hand and in order to lose the other person had to be very fortunate as 9 out or 10 times they were a large underdog.
This renewed look and reevaluation of my game is something that I needed to do to reaffirm my play and know that our time will come for a big cash in the near future. I head off to Reno in a week for the fall pot of gold and will be there from Dec. 6 until the 17th. I know that the big tourney is at the Bellagio right now but we need to hit some tourneys first before we go back to the big buy-in tournaments. Wish luck to my friend and mentor Johan Storakers as he will be playing at the Bellagio Main event in the middle of December; the buy-in is 15k and first prize should be just over 3 million.
I will update soon if any more news comes out soon otherwise I will be reporting from Reno. I will be putting out a new schedule for January and February soon. January is Tunica Mississippi, and January is back to Vegas for my favorite Venetian Deep Stack tourney. If any of you want to see the best-structured tournament. This is the one.
Until next time....
